Assessments and developmentCreating Montessori assessments
Build narrative report cards with progress data and observations for each child.
Report cards
FutureNerds report cards are narrative-based, designed for the Montessori approach. They combine milestone data from the progress grid with your observations into a comprehensive assessment.
Creating a report card
- Go to a child's profile and click the School Records tab, then find Report Cards.
- Click Create report card.
- Select the reporting period (for example, "Fall 2025" or "Spring 2026"). Your administrator manages sessions from the admin page.
- The system pre-fills:
- Milestone progress from the progress grid.
- Recent observations.
- For each curriculum area, write a narrative summary describing the child's growth, interests, and next steps.
- Add general comments about social development, independence, and classroom engagement.
- Click Preview to see how it will look to parents.
- Click Publish to make it available to the family.
Report card structure
Each report card includes:
- Child information -- name, age, classroom, reporting period.
- Curriculum areas -- a section for each area with milestone statuses and your narrative.
- General comments -- your overall assessment.
Editing after publishing
You can edit a published report card at any time. Parents see the updated version.
PDF export
Parents can download report cards as PDFs from their dashboard. The PDF includes your school logo and formatting.
Tips
- Write narratives in plain language that families can understand.
- Focus on growth and next steps, not just current ability.
- Include specific examples from your observations.
- Use the progress grid to review the child's milestones before writing.
- Aim to publish report cards within two weeks of the period ending.
