Assessments

FutureNerds assessments are narrative-based, designed for the Montessori approach. They combine milestone data from the progress grid with your observations into a comprehensive assessment.

Creating an assessment

1. Go to a child's profile, open Learning, and click Assessment.
2. Select the reporting period (for example, "Fall 2025" or "Spring 2026"). Your administrator manages sessions from School Settings, under Term Dates and Sessions.
3. To start the narrative, click Generate draft from observations. It fills the narrative fields from the child's observations and progress for the term, using only observations families can see. Review and edit what it writes.
4. For each curriculum area, write or edit a narrative summary describing the child's growth, interests, and next steps.
5. Add general comments about social development, independence, and classroom engagement.
6. Click Save Draft to finish later, or Publish to make it available to the family. Families see an assessment only after it is published.

Assessment structure

Each assessment includes:

• Child information -- name, age, classroom, reporting period.
• Curriculum areas -- a section for each area with milestone statuses and your narrative.
• General comments -- your overall assessment.

Editing after publishing

A published assessment is locked. To change it, click Unpublish, make your edits, and publish it again. Families cannot see it while it is unpublished.

Tips

• Write narratives in plain language that families can understand.
• Focus on growth and next steps, not just current ability.
• Include specific examples from your observations.
• Use the progress grid to review the child's milestones before writing.
• Aim to publish assessments within two weeks of the period ending.
