Keeping the daily journal
Log timed moments through the day, edit them, move between days, and choose what families see.
The daily journal
The daily journal is a running log of timed moments from your classroom: arrivals, naps, meals, a breakthrough on the mat. It lives on the Today tab and gives you a timeline of the day as it happens. The daily summary is one narrative for the whole day; the journal is a series of individual entries with times.

Adding an entry
- Open your classroom and stay on the Today tab.
- In the journal section, click Add entry.
- Type what happened (for example, "Maya arrived at drop-off in good spirits" or "Group settled for nap").
- Set the time. It defaults to now, so a moment you log as it happens is already stamped correctly.
- Save.
Entries appear in time order so the day reads as a timeline from morning to dismissal.
Editing or deleting an entry
Click an existing entry to change its text or time. Click the delete control to remove it. There is no undo, so delete only when you are sure.
Moving between days
The journal shows today by default. Use the date control at the top to step back to an earlier day or forward again. This is useful for finishing yesterday's notes or reviewing the week.
Choosing what families see
Each entry has a visibility toggle. Turn it on to share the entry with the families in your classroom; leave it off to keep it as a staff-only note. Shared entries appear on the parent's view of their child's day. Decide per entry, so a private staffing note and a moment worth sharing can sit side by side.
Tips
- Log moments as they happen. The time stamp is accurate and the detail is fresh.
- Use the journal for the play-by-play and the daily summary for the wrap-up.
- Keep shared entries warm and specific. Name the material or the moment.
