FutureNerds alternatives, and when each one is the better choice

The main FutureNerds alternatives are Transparent Classroom and Montessori Compass for established Montessori record keeping, brightwheel for centers that need payroll, Procare for QuickBooks Online sync, and Storypark for learning stories. Each costs more per child than FutureNerds where prices are published, and each does something FutureNerds does not.

When FutureNerds is the wrong fit

FutureNerds covers Montessori records, attendance, messages, billing and admissions for $0.50 per child per month after the first 10 children. It has no payroll or staff scheduling, no CACFP or subsidy tools, no SMS, no direct QuickBooks sync, and no Wear OS app. Apple Pay and Google Pay are not available yet. It is newer, and it does not appear in public "best Montessori software" lists such as this one.

If one of those limits matters to your school, one of the products below may fit better. They run from the Montessori record keepers closest to FutureNerds to general childcare software.

The alternatives

1. Transparent Classroom

Record keeping, lesson planning and parent sharing made by Montessori educators. It says it serves over 2,500 schools in 89 countries and has AMI and AMS lesson sets. Price: $2.50 per child per month, for enrolled children only.

Better than FutureNerds when you want a record keeper with a long Montessori track record and you are fine running billing through its Onespot partnership.

2. Montessori Compass

Over 3,000 lessons from infant through age 12, on the Montessori Foundation Scope and Sequence. Price: $2.00 per student per month or $18 per year, and $6.00 or $48 for the Growth Suite, which adds billing and admissions. 30-day free trial.

Better than FutureNerds when you want a ready-made library of over 3,000 lessons and your families read English. The interface is English only.

3. brightwheel

Childcare software with a Montessori scope and sequence, payroll, staff scheduling and CACFP menus. Online payments submitted by 7 pm ET are deposited the next business day. Price: quote only.

Better than FutureNerds when you run a center that needs payroll, staff scheduling or CACFP in the same product.

4. Procare

Childcare management with Tuition Express payments, real-time QuickBooks Online sync and state standards for all 50 states. Procare does not show a price we could check.

Better than FutureNerds when your accountant needs invoices and payments to flow into QuickBooks Online without a file import.

5. Storypark

Learning stories and family engagement, free for families, from $1.59 USD per child per month. Montessori is set up as a school's own learning set.

Better than FutureNerds when your families care most about learning stories, and you do not need lesson-by-lesson mastery tracking.

6. Montessori Records Xpress (MRX)
