What do presented, practicing and mastered mean?
Presented, practicing and mastered are the levels Montessori guides use to track each lesson. Presented means the guide gave the lesson, practicing means the child is working with it, and mastered means the child does it alone. FutureNerds adds a fourth level, not yet presented.
The four levels in FutureNerds
| Level | Meaning | When a child moves here |
|---|---|---|
| Not yet presented | The lesson has not been given | The starting point for every lesson |
| Presented | The guide gave the lesson | Right after the first presentation |
| Practicing | The child is working with the material | When the child chooses the work and repeats it |
| Mastered | The child completes it independently | When the child does the work correctly without help |
A school owner can rename the levels and change their colors in settings, for schools that use other words such as "introduced" or "secure".
Why the levels matter
The levels let a guide answer three questions at a glance: which lessons to give next, who needs a second presentation, and what to tell parents at conference time. In FutureNerds the Progress Grid shows every child against every lesson in a classroom, with each cell in its level's color.
How to record a level in FutureNerds
- Open the classroom's Progress Grid, a lesson plan, or a child's Learning tab.
- Find the child and the lesson.
- Click the cell or the child's pill to move the child to the next level.
- Add an observation if you want to note what you saw.
- Check the Progress Grid at the end of the week to plan next week's lessons.
