FutureNerds is a classroom photo sharing app for schools with privacy controls. Staff post photos and tag children and lessons. The school chooses whether parents see only photos of their own child, and each parent can limit who sees theirs. It is free for your first 10 students.

## Classroom and club galleries

Each classroom has a Photos tab with its own gallery. After-school clubs have galleries too. Staff upload photos from the web or take them in the FutureNerds app for iPhone or Android, and add a caption to each one.

Parents view the photos in the app and can save them to their phone or computer.

## Tagging children and lessons

Staff tag the children who appear in each photo. Tags decide which families see the photo when the school shows only tagged photos.

A photo can also be tagged with a lesson for a child in it, such as the Pink Tower or the Movable Alphabet. That tag records progress for the child on that lesson. See [observations and progress](/product/observations).

## Who can see each photo

A school admin picks one of two settings under Photos and Privacy:

| Setting | What parents see |
| --- | --- |
| Only Tagged Photos (default) | Photos where their own child is tagged |
| All Classroom Photos | Every photo in their child's classroom, whoever is tagged |

Only Tagged Photos is the default for a new school. With this setting, staff need to tag children for families to see a photo.

## What each parent controls

Each parent has a switch on their child's Photos tab called "Limit who can see my child's photos." When it is on, a photo tagged with their child is visible only to administrators, teachers, and the guardians of the children tagged in that photo. Families whose children are not tagged in that photo do not see it, even when the school shows all classroom photos.

Photos work on the web and in the FutureNerds apps for iPhone, iPad and Android.

## How to share classroom photos in FutureNerds

1. A school admin opens Settings, then Photos and Privacy, and picks Only Tagged Photos or All Classroom Photos.
2. Open the classroom and go to the Photos tab, or use the camera in the iPhone or Android app.
3. Upload or take the photos.
4. Add a caption to each photo.
5. Tag every child who appears in the photo.
6. Add a lesson tag for a child if the photo shows their work, to record their progress.
7. Save. Families who can see the photo find it on their child's Photos tab.

## What it costs

FutureNerds is free for your first 10 students. After that, it costs $0.50 per child per month, with no setup fee. See [pricing](/pricing).

## Questions and answers

### Can parents see photos of other children in FutureNerds?

That depends on the school's setting. With Only Tagged Photos, the default, parents see only photos where their own child is tagged. With All Classroom Photos, they see every photo from their child's classroom.

### Can a parent keep their child's photos away from other families?

Yes. A parent can turn on "Limit who can see my child's photos" in FutureNerds. Photos tagged with their child are then visible only to administrators, teachers, and the guardians of the children tagged.

### Can teachers take photos on a phone?

Yes. Teachers take and upload photos in the FutureNerds apps for iPhone and Android, or upload them on the web.

### Do classroom photos count toward a child's progress record?

Yes. When a teacher tags a lesson on a child in a photo, FutureNerds records progress for that child on that lesson.

### Can parents download photos?

Yes. Parents can view and save photos from the FutureNerds app.
