# Is FutureNerds worth it? Who it suits and who should pick something else

FutureNerds is worth it for a small or mid-sized Montessori school that wants records, attendance, messages, billing and admissions in one app at low cost. It is free for 10 children, then $0.50 per child a month. Centers that need payroll, subsidy tools or QuickBooks sync should pick something else.

## What it costs

FutureNerds is free for your first 10 students. After that it is $0.50 per child per month, with no setup fee. If families pay invoices online through FutureNerds, standard Stripe fees plus 1% apply to those payments.

## What you get

**Montessori records.** Each school starts on an AMS or AMI curriculum, or its own. Areas such as Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Mathematics and Cultural Studies contain the lessons. Four mastery levels (not yet presented, presented, practicing, mastered) can be renamed and recolored. Guides record observations with a type such as grace and courtesy or conflict resolution, and choose whether parents see each one. See [observations](/product/observations).

**Lesson planning.** Guides plan a morning or afternoon work period from the lesson library for their classroom's level, and assign children to each lesson. See [lesson planning](/product/lesson-planning).

**Daily life.** Attendance with drop-off and pick-up times, parent absence reports, toddler naps, meals and diapers, and an end-of-day summary filled from your observations and lesson plans.

**Families.** Messages, posts and announcements, a calendar with ICS feeds, photos, forms and e-signatures, and progress reports.

**Office.** Invoices with sibling discounts, scholarships and an annual pay-in-full option. An online application form with nine question types, a waitlist and visit booking through Cal.com. QuickBooks-format CSV export of invoices and payments.

**Apps and languages.** Apps for iPhone, iPad and Android, plus an Apple Watch app. The interface is in 14 languages, including Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Japanese and Korean.

## Who it is worth it for

- A school with 10 or fewer children. It pays nothing.
- A Montessori school with one to a few classrooms that now uses one tool for records and another for tuition.
- A school whose families speak several languages.
- An owner who wants admissions, enrollment and billing to work from the same family records.
- A school that wants to connect an AI assistant through the FutureNerds MCP server, which an admin turns on.

## Who should pick something else

Check these limits before you sign up:

- **Payroll and staff scheduling.** FutureNerds has neither. brightwheel [lists both](https://mybrightwheel.com/montessori).
- **CACFP and childcare subsidies.** FutureNerds has no CACFP or subsidy tools. brightwheel lists [CACFP menus](https://mybrightwheel.com/montessori).
- **QuickBooks sync.** FutureNerds exports QuickBooks-format CSV files. Procare Online [syncs invoices and payments with QuickBooks Online in real time](https://www.procaresupport.com/procare-online/docs/integrating-with-quickbooks-online.md).
- **Text messages.** FutureNerds sends push notifications, email and in-app messages. It does not send SMS.
- **Apple Pay and Google Pay.** Not available yet. Families pay by card through Stripe or by bank transfer with proof.
- **Wear OS.** There is an Apple Watch app and no Wear OS app.
- **Automatic invoicing.** It is off by default. When you turn it on, it creates draft invoices that an admin reviews and sends.
- **Observation-sheet photos.** Reading marked paper sheets from a photo is new. Plan to review each scan before you save it.
- **Track record.** FutureNerds is newer. It does not appear yet in public "best Montessori software" lists such as [this one](https://gitnux.org/best/montessori-software/), where Transparent Classroom and Montessori Compass appear.
- **Help in English.** The app is in 14 languages, but the help center and these pages are in English.

## How to try FutureNerds

1. Sign up with your email address. No credit card is needed.
2. Create your school and choose AMS, AMI or your own curriculum.
3. Add your first classroom and invite one guide.
4. Import families from a CSV, XLSX or XLS file, or invite one parent to start.
5. Record a week of real observations and attendance.
6. Connect Stripe only when you are ready to send invoices.
7. Decide at the end of the week. With 10 or fewer children, there is nothing to pay.

No. Daily summaries and progress report drafts are filled from your observations using templates, and guides edit them. AI suggestions are a separate option that is off by default. A school admin turns it on, and children's names are removed before any text is sent.

### Can FutureNerds work with QuickBooks?

FutureNerds exports invoices and payments as QuickBooks-format CSV files that you import. It does not sync with QuickBooks directly.

### Can parents see every observation in FutureNerds?

No. In FutureNerds an observation stays with staff unless the guide turns on "Share with parents" for it, and that switch starts off.
